WHAT TO DO

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has established codes to assist in installing electrical apparatus to reduce the risk of fire and electrical shock. The code is named the National Electric Code (NEC), and has been adopted by most municipalities, etc.
The diagram to the left is an example of how to correctly install a television antenna to meet the NEC.

WHAT NOT TO DO

The photo on the right shows a poor consumer installation with total disregard to safety. Lightning struck a tree within 25' of this antenna mast, and destroyed the television, vcr, air conditioner and blew out circuits in the fuse box.
The damage could have been reduced by following the code in the above diagram, the use of LRC in place of the down-lead cable would have further reduced the possibility of damage.
